Styling Basic’s: The Inverted Triangle

inverted triangleladies1

I’m so happy to be able to share this basic series on the inverted triangle shape. I have been trying my best to share as much as I can on social media, but truthfully social media doesn’t have enough room for all the things I want to share. Before we get started, everything I’ve shared/linked below are items I’ve hand selected to suit your hourglass shape. We all have different body dimensions, so this is a general guide. I do offer more personalized services where I can get you set up with your very own (tailored to you) personal styling profile, you can book that HERE. But I know these general styling tips below are incredibly helpful for your shopping and styling experience.

Measurements

My very first blog post is how to measure your shape, if you haven’t seen that yet you can check it out HERE (it’s how you determine your shape).

The inverted triangle body shape: The largest measurement is the shoulders. Then following; the bust, then waist, and lastly the hip. Resembling an inverted triangle. As an inverted triangle when your body fluctuates when there is weight gain it will typically go to your upper body. When it comes to styling we are tying to balance the lower body to the upper. We can enhance your naturally beautiful features by adding volume to your bottom 🙂

Styling Basic’s

Below are several links and basic styles that flatter your shape. I tried to keep these styles relatively basic so you could see the styles and shapes of these pieces. I’ve not only shared flattering tops, bottoms, and dress styles but also necklines, sleeves, coats, jackets, blazers to play and style with. This may be cheesy, but I believe that fashion should be fun and you should feel confident in your skin and that the clothes only enhance your beauty.  When it comes to shopping and styling make it your own. Incorporate your favorite colors, textures, and patterns!

Tops for the Inverted Triangle Shape

As an inverted triangle going simple on top is the way to go (you can really have fun with your bottoms). Wrap, trapeze, peplum, and fitted tops will accentuate your beautiful shoulders and upper body. Wide straps, 3/4, and dolman style sleeves enhance your your arms and upper body. Necklines are another way to add dimension to your tops. Scoop and V-neck are a go-to for the inverted triangles, and easy to find when shopping. But halter and asymmetrical can be a more sexy and flirty style.

Bottoms for the Inverted Triangle Shape

Like I mentioned above you want balance out your beautiful shape. You can continue to compliment the inverted triangle shape with how you pair your tops and bottoms. I LOVE the way wide leg pants look on inverted triangle’s because it naturally draws your eye down to your smallest features (your waist and hips). It’s such a pretty style on you! Straight leg and boots are beautiful too. One of the inverted triangle’s fav’s for denim is madewell. When it comes to shorts try patterns and a looser style, the same goes for skirts. You can have so much fun with your bottoms, play with textures and colors!

Dress’s for the Inverted Triangle Shape

Wrap and paneled waist dresses are going to accentuate your waist, shift and bias dresses are going to lay beautifully on your hourglass silhouette. Sizing is everything, especially when it comes to dresses, make sure the shift and bias dresses fit you well.

Swimwear for the Inverted Triangle Shape

I will be devoting an entire post to swimwear for your shape next month! But I’ve linked some of my current favorites for the inverted triangle below.

You can be in-between, two shapes… and sometimes even in-between 3. It’s why I offer personal styling sessions. I can tell you your exact shape(s) and tailor the session to you with styling and shopping tips to last you a life time. You can book your session HERE).

But there are a couple factors that come into play when you’re looking for the most flattering styles for your body. #1: Your measurements, you have to know your measurements. Not only does it help us determine your beautiful shape and how to dress it. But knowing your measurements will help with your shopping and styling experience. It helps you avoid some of the sizing/try-on/and returning issues you may run into without knowing your sizes. #2:  How those measurements relate to your body; the shoulders, bust, waist, and hips. Weight and height do NOT factor into determining your shape. Body shapes work in proportion to YOUR own body, to help you flatter YOUR specific figure 🙂

Let me know if you use any of these styling tips. You can always tag me on social media (HERE for instagram) and (HERE for tiktok). I love sharing you guys on my social channels!

xoxo, Kristina
