I’m so happy to be able to share this basic series on the rectangle shape. I have been trying my best to share as much as I can on social media, but truthfully social media doesn’t have enough room for all the things I want to share. Before we get started, everything I’ve shared/linked below are items I’ve hand selected to suit your hourglass shape. We all have different body dimensions, so this is a general guide. I do offer more personalized services where I can get you set up with your very own (tailored to you) personal styling profile, you can book that HERE. But I know these general styling tips below are incredibly helpful for your shopping and styling experience.
Measurements
My very first blog post is how to measure your shape, if you haven’t seen that yet you can check it out HERE (it’s how you determine your shape).
The rectangle body shape: All measurements are within 4-6″ inches of each other. No specific area is larger than each other. When your body fluctuates, the weight gain is evenly distributed. The goal is to enhance your natural shape by adding volume on top or bottom while drawing the eye toward your waist.
Styling Basic’s
Below are several links and basic styles that flatter your shape. I tried to keep these styles relatively basic so you could see the styles and shapes of these pieces. I’ve not only shared flattering tops, bottoms, and dress styles but also necklines, sleeves, coats, jackets, blazers to play and style with. This may be cheesy, but I believe that fashion should be fun and you should feel confident in your skin and that the clothes only enhance your beauty. When it comes to shopping and styling make it your own. Incorporate your favorite colors, textures, and patterns!
Tops for the Rectangle Shape
As a rectangle you can have so much fun with your tops. Form fitting styles are going to be more suited for your shape. Wrap, stripes, ruffles, and button up’s all draw the eye up. Embellished/ruffles/and flutter sleeves enhance your beautiful shoulders and upper body. Necklines are another way to add dimension to your tops. Scoop and V-neck are a go-to for the rectangle, and easy to find when shopping. But sweetheart and off the shoulder can be a more sexy and flirty style.
Bottoms for the Rectangle Shape
Like I mentioned above you want to enhance the dimension in your shape. You can continue to compliment your rectangle shape with how you pair your tops and bottoms. Skinny jeans were made for you because they give your lower body volume, but flare styles do the same. When it comes to wide leg or boyfriend styled jeans make sure they are more fitted through the bum and thigh’s, so it compliment your shape. Straight leg and boot are beautiful too. Abercrombie has some of the best jeans for the rectangle shape. When it comes to shorts you can do more fitted or looser styles, the same goes for skirts. If you are doing a fitted style of shorts make sure they are a little bit longer, around the thighs and kneecap; biker shorts are great.
Dress’s for the Rectangle Shape
Wrap and paneled waist dresses are going to accentuate your waist, shift and bias dresses are going to lay beautifully on your rectangle silhouette. But sizing is everything, especially when it comes to dresses, make sure the shift and bias dresses fit you well and not too oversized.
Swimwear for the Rect Shape
I will be devoting an entire post to swimwear for your shape next month! But I’ve linked some of my current favorites for the hourglass below.
You can be in-between, two shapes… and sometimes even in-between 3. It’s why I offer personal styling sessions. I can tell you your exact shape(s) and tailor the session to you with styling and shopping tips to last you a life time. You can book your session HERE).
But there are a couple factors that come into play when you’re looking for the most flattering styles for your body. #1: Your measurements, you have to know your measurements. Not only does it help us determine your beautiful shape and how to dress it. But knowing your measurements will help with your shopping and styling experience. It helps you avoid some of the sizing/try-on/and returning issues you may run into without knowing your sizes. #2: How those measurements relate to your body; the shoulders, bust, waist, and hips. Weight and height do NOT factor into determining your shape. Body shapes work in proportion to YOUR own body, to help you flatter YOUR specific figure 🙂
Let me know if you use any of these styling tips. You can always tag me on social media (HERE for instagram) and (HERE for tiktok). I love sharing you guys on my social channels!
